i think all references made now to Robert Rodriguez should be replaced with the words Gaffer Tape ,
The un sung hero, inspiration, savior to every film maker out there

N. Foster Tyler, your perhaps right about quite a lot of things. For your information I go to college during the day (although I'm currently on holiday) and I work at an electronics firm during the evenings. I suppose you could say that I spend a lot of time doing "lonely" things as you put it. However, I've been saving every penny I've made to put towards my movie.
Why will my film be different from other people? Because I actually care about what people think of my movie and not just what my mates think. WHO in thier right mind makes movies for themselves anyway? I wouldn't put my hard earned ??? towards something that I'm making just for myself.
The whole point of film making for me is to tell a story to the people. To put them on the edges of thier seats for 90 minutes. While doing all that I also dream/hope to get rich
At least let me make my movie first before you judge me.

Alright man. Fair enough. By the way, you sound a little upset for a guy who started it.

All,
Film making is a business, its about making money, for the industry. The people who make films, rather than make all the money from them, have to make it from the heart. You have to believe in a project from the word go, especially on a low budget production. You have to work long, hard days, often at a day job as well. It takes a long time, usually measured in years, to make it and you have to persist through numerous problems and turn downs.
Rodriguez doesn't get my respect for making money, he gets my respect for not expecting to, and when offered it, staying with his feet on the ground and making films HE wants to make. You sound like you've all read the book. When offered 2 grand a month and a stay in a 4* hotel, he took the money and stayed at his office to save some money to use later, or send home. I don't think he makes all that money because he wants it, I think he makes it as a by product and that he'd be happy earning 15 grand a year as long as he was making films.
The thing that makes him stand out from many is that fact that most film makers are there to tell a story and that unlike the rest his films are being seen by an international audience.
Just a thought
